My Chinese New Year's Eve

Every year I always enjoy my Chinese New Year a lot. On Chinese New Year's Eve, I often help my home put the spring couplets on the door frame. When whole family all sit and eat together at a big table, we always have a very big and delicious dinner at that time. After the biggest meal, I gives my father and mother a red envelop with lucky money in it. Then we all go outside to set off firecrackers. That is the best way to celebrate our Chinese New Year.
My Chinese New Year's Eve make me very happy!

Overwork (HTC)

The 29-year-old engineer, surnamed Hsu, was found dead in front of his computer at home in January. His parents said he had been putting in about 95 hours of overtime per month for six months before his death.

The prosecutors and NTU doctors that the family went to all determined that the cause of death was overwork. However, investigations by the Bureau of Labor Insurance said that this death was unrelated to the amount of overtime and was unwilling to identify the death as occupational. The two results were completely different, so this case could only be sent to be reexamined by the Council of Labor Affairs.

It is actually not news that engineers in the technology industry work long hours. Some engineers in Hsinchu Science Park say that it is normal for them to only get four or five days off a month, and work 12 to 14 hours a day. Many of their colleagues work for a few years, earn a few million NTD, and then choose to leave. In addition, because of revisions in government policies, many technology factories have stopped giving stock bonuses. Many engineers say that "rich and young" workers in the technology industry are a thing of the past.

The Old Man and the Sea

In my winter vacation , I read The Old Man and the Sea . I think I have benefited a lot from reading it. It was written by Hemingway, a world-famous American novelist.

He wrote many novels and short stories, a few of  which have been adapted for movies. But this novelette remains my favorite. What appeals to me , first of all, is its plot. It centers around an old man's unceasing struggle with the sea. The old man demonstrates his courage best when he makes the remark, "a man can be destroyed, but he cannot be defeated. "Secondly, I really appreciate the author's writing style. As in many of his other works , simplicity and lucidity are characteristic of Hemingway's style.

I have learned a lot from the book. It has not only inspired me to be courageous enough to face challenges in life but taught me how to write.

Christchurch earthquake

The 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck in the early afternoon Tuesday in Christchurch, prompting New Zealanders to flee into the streets as others rushed to the collapsed buildings in attempts to rescue those trapped in the rubble.

That earthquake has shaken and broken the wonderful dream of countless families, but woken the New Zealand people's love and sympathy up . From the TV news, we can see that a lot of people have lost one's own loved relative, can see the care to the disaster area of a lot of people and pay too.

Though we received a lot of destruction, our strong vitality let we quickly recover within a short time. I just hope that, passing this lesson, everybody can pay more attention to nature and cherish the nature.
